Epidural Hematoma

ANATOMY OF INJURY

The covering of the brain is called the dura. When a hemorrhage occurs from lacerating a blood vessel along the dura, the bleeding causes a blood clot between the dura and the skull. This pushes the brain inward resulting in pressure on the brain. Since the hemorrhage is on the outside of the dura, it is called an epidural hematoma.
